Spudnut 15!- Saturday, July 16th!
Play your volleyball on the Grass,
Keep you attitude on the Pavement!
Tourney Info

Players must check in by 8:45 AM
Willow Lane Park (off State Street between Veteran's Parkway & Collister)

Spudnut Volleyball is the 2nd cousin twice removed of the Flying Wingnut Invitational, making it a 1st cousin once removed of the Lugnut. Both predecessors called Sheridan Wyoming their home. Special considerations will always be made for Wingnut/Lugnut veterans. The only Wingnut veteran is Janice Atkins-Neva, but in past years, there have been 5 Lugnut vets: Janice, Lou Kawulok, Angie Nicholes, Jim Pickett, and Tammy Seiler.

Tournament Information and the Facts of Life
(as they apply to the SpudNut)

This is a four person, coed, blind draw tourney. All volleyball players are not created equally. In order
to make this tournament interesting, at least 40 people are required. Great care has been taken to
invite only those folks who we feel will enjoy the day, regardless of who ends up on their team. If you are fussy or would throw a fit of any kind, I strongly suggest you stay home!

Entry Fees:

This is the cool part. Each participant is asked to help stock the food tables. Food assignments will be distributed the week of the tourney so check back here to see what to bring. We will have fruit, chips, veggies, sandwich makings, salads and desserts plus once teams are eliminated, we'll fire up the BBQ for some burgers/dogs/chorizos. Pop, Gatorade, and water are also available, but you'd be wise to bring some of your own too. Painstaking research is done to keep the cost of the assignments somewhat equal, even though they may be sexist. You can expect to spend about $10-15.

Format

  • Round Robin play followed by double elimination brackets
  • Play will last a good part of the day (there's always pick up games available)
  • Tournament is played outdoors, on grass
  • All teams are made up of 2 guys and 2 girls. Of course, the number of entrants is never quite equal between the sexes so the tourney director has the right to note a sex change for some of the participants - don't worry, it's painless and doesn't involve any hormones!
  • All teams will be drawn from a hat on tournament day. Last year's team members and husband/wife pairing will be avoided when possible. Determination of husband/wife status is once again at the discretion of the tourney director, not the state of Idaho or any other government bureaucracy who has no idea how hard it is to play volleyball all day with "that' person

Rules:

  • Rally scoring
  • Call your own game
  • No open hand tips allowed (cobras, stiff pinkies, and/or fists are okay)
  • Ball may be played off any part of your body
  • Players are not required to rotate on the court, just in serving order
  • Blocks do no count (3 hits remaining)
  • Serve from anywhere behind the court
  • Net serves are in play
  • Shoulders must be square with line of travel if ball is set over the net
  • No center line, proviing there is no interference
  • "Three guys" is okay, just don't make a habit of it
  • One time out per game
  • Injury substitutions will be made at the tourney director's discretion
  • Anyone not having fun will be referred to forever more as a "DUD SPUD"

Awards:
There will be awards for the top team. 2nd Place, consolation bracket, and other awards may happen as well, you'll just have to wait and see.
